Between courses, assignments, part-time jobs and everything else we students have going on, it's hard to find time to stay active and workout. It's even harder when you hate exercising! While sometimes it feels like you may just never enjoy working out, it's really a matter of finding an activity you love. Follow the steps below to try out new ways to get active and find a workout you actually like!
Try Everything
To find a fun workout it's important to be open-minded and try a lot of different things. The more you try the better your chances are of finding something you like! Keep an eye out for ideas that you might have never thought of before, and try them!
Grab A Friend
Everything's always more fun with a buddy! Invite a friend to try some new activities with you and encourage to keep up with your goals. This makes trying a new workout a bit less scary and a lot more fun.
Stick With It
Don't give up on a new activity right away, even if it's challenging at first. A lot of workouts take a bit of getting used to at the beginning, but you may end up really enjoying it if you give it a chance.
A Few Ideas to Get You Started
If you're not sure what workouts to try, here are a few examples. Most of these are free to do on your own or are offered by Campus Rec at a low price for students! (Check out our "LU Recreation" app for more info!)
fitness classes offered in the Alphonse Raymond gym
clubs like the Cheerleading Club, the Karate Club or the Outers Club
going for a walk or run on our beautiful Laurentian trails
Buzzfeed workout routines and challenges
climbing our indoor and outdoor rock walls
great workout apps like Nike Training Club, Sworkit and Zombies, Run!
Now it's time to get out there and try some! Hopefully you can find an activity you love and enjoy getting in shape this winter. Check back here every Thursday for more posts on how to stay healthy from our awesome student blogging team!
